Each of us has a story to tell. For some of us, it’s an ongoing drama. For others, it might be more of a murder mystery or an adventure on the high seas. Other people might think of their story as a monologue that perhaps doesn’t have a lot of excitement.
No matter what your story might be, or how it might look to you as you review it, the truth is that your story doesn’t define who you are. It merely describes a collection of activities you’ve engaged in over the course of your life.
One of the challenges that many of us have is that we become attached to our story and even believe that we are a character in a play that someone else is directing. But the truth is, you are the author and experiencer of your story, and no matter what you might think of what you’ve written and experienced so far, remember that you have an unlimited number of blank pages in front of you. The question we ask this month is: what do you intend to create?
There is nothing more important in this life than knowing the truth of who you really are. And much of what you do in your life are experiments to find out. Am I this? Am I that? But one thing we do know is that opening up to who you really are means getting “vulnerable”, “exposing” the person that is wrapped in many layers of perspectives, interpretations, conclusions and judgments of us. While many of these perspectives may come from other people, the ones that really matter are the ones we have about ourselves.
Vulnerability, transparency, honesty, openness. These are captured beautifully in the Japanese invitation to “open the kimono”.
For this episode, the Soul Empowerment team plan to share some of their own life experiences, with some disclosure of backgrounds and limiting beliefs that they are stripping away on a daily basis to remember who they truly are. You will notice that we have two faces on the team, Gayle Nowak and Scott Holmes, so we invite you to join us in a conversation that’s all about stripping back the layers of our life experiences and learned behaviors to reveal the beautiful truth underneath.
* The Early Years. During our formative years, parents and teachers try to “form” us in the best way they can, with the knowledge that they have. All that we are taught and experience, is what we take on board to shape us.
* Wake-up Calls. Life gives us many hints and nudges to support us to a greater understanding of ourselves. However, many of us don’t understand and/or heed them and that is when we get “shouted at” by life in a way that we have to listen. This can result in the loss of everything in our lives, it feels like it is falling apart. This gives us the opportunity to “find ourselves” to access what really resonates with us, what feels right for us and supports us to let go of other people’s ideas of who we should be.
* The “Real” You. The wake-up call is just the beginning of the stripping away of all the layers of conditioning, protection and so much more that has built up over the years, helping us to reveal the unique individual that we are meant to be.
